First Quarter @ The Theatre School at DePaul University

Hello friends! I understand that you may be auditioning for schools soon or applying for schools in such in your own college processes and I am here just to provide some insight on my experience with The Theatre School. I am currently a BFA Theatre Arts Student at DePaul University. Personally, I think of it as one of the most open and versatile degree's you can get here at The Theatre School. The first classes I have taken in my first quarter are: Intro to Production: Not your momma's production class! My class was taught by the one and only, Ernie Nolan. A man who just has so much under his belt, he really is just an impressive guy. In this class you learn about what it takes to create your own theatre company, and what is here in Chicago. This class keeps me informed and knowledgable about what is happening around me! Ernie is also just an engaging speaker and teacher. 10/10, I recommend this guy. Script Analysis: This is a class that is not for the weak. You must ...

Closing In On The End of First Quarter

Hello my friends! Welcome back to Acting in The Groove! My name is Ryan Hebert and I am so glad you are reading my post today! So if you already know me and have been keeping up with my recent activity, I am a current student at DePaul University, and I am almost done with my first quarter. First off, I never knew college could be so exciting. You never know what can happen. From chilling in your room one night, to being at a party the next. It is honestly insane how quickly stuff can change. The experiences i've had with my friends here are one's I will remember forever. I'd really love to share one of those fun experiences with you all today. It was a mild night in Chicago. About 8:30-9pm on a Sunday night. I walk down a street with some of my friends, near the DePaul campus, but off campus for sure. We then continue on this street for a long while until we take a turn onto a smaller street and then an alley of sorts. It was a nicely lit alley with garages and a bri...

Where Am I Going

Hello friends! How are you? Thank you for coming back to my blog! For all of you who do not know me, my name is Ryan and it is a pleasure to be able to write for you today. Ryan B. Hebert (ME) as The Phantom of The Opera (2016) For all of you who do know me, I am alive, I swear to god, I am alive. I am now in my SECOND week of college, and I have to say, I am surviving quite nicely. Take a peek at a photo I took the other day on 9/11 University Hall in the mid afternoon on 9/11 I used a special filter to create the image, and I'm proud that I was able to take such a nice shot of the Quad, the area in the center of campus, and University Hall, the dorm in which I currently reside. I am loving my living arrangement. If you are a prospective college student, looking at DePaul as a serious option, then I recommend, University Hall, the the most social and inviting dorm on campus. Not to mention that there is a wide array of students that live in this dorm. From Business ma...

Rolling The Day Away

Image
On today's post, I talk about what happened during my day. So without further ado, here we go. This morning I left the house with my amazing girlfriend, Izzy, to go get breakfast. The day before we had gone to a nicer breakfast location. This morning, we were both good with some nice Dunkin Donuts. She had been recently given a ton of DD gift cards, so breakfast was on her this morning. The Dunkin Donuts location was extremely nice and cozy. We lucked out on sitting in the two black comfy leather chairs. We munched on our breakfast's, and then continued our day from there.  After Dunks, we headed to Walmart. She needed some lady things, and we both enjoyed going there. It gave us somewhere to go and something to do. You can do a lot in a Walmart, especially a Super Walmart. You can people watch, look at fun and cool items, and just have a good time with each other. After a trip to Walmart, we stopped at a local music store we had seen on the way to Walmart. All ...

School of Rock (What an Ironic Title hehe)

Image
Welcome back everyone! I'm so glad you could join me here on Acting In The Groove today. My name is Ryan, and for those of you who do not know me, I am a nerd. Theatre nerd, super hero nerd, Pokemon nerd, all the nerds. Today I went to go see School of Rock (Youth Version) at the Ogunquit Playhouse!!! It was friggin amazing. Victor Tracey, Dewey Finn, good friend of mine, was perfect for the role. He possessed energy that was always bursting at the seams. He connected well with all of his other fellow castmates on stage. Emma Smith, a great friend of mine, played the role of Patty. An overbearing and abusive wife to Ned. She was committed to her character the entire show, and was just awesome. Her voice was fantastic as always! She actually just released her new Album, Compass! I am so excited to listen to it as well. Click HERE to go and check out her Album on Itunes, Spotify, etc. Taylor Hussey, I want to know this guy better! Holy crap, he killed it on the drums. Let me...

Pokemon World Championships 2016

Image
Welcome back to my blog, bloggers, readers, and citizens of the world! If you are not familiar with me, my name is Ryan, and this is my blog. I'm an actor and a human being, as most of us are. Today i'm not talking on a subject that is very near and dear to my heart: POKEMON! Last year I attended the Pokemon World Championships in Boston, MA. I had a stellar time, and I made some fantastic friends along the way. I brought my hometown friends, Ian and Seth with me on different days. I then met a great guy named Warren whom I now live near. This year the Pokemon Championships are in San Francisco, CA, and I am not able to make it. Not to mention this happened: So it is kind of hard to attend unless you are an invited player, that is competing during the weekend. I did infact compete this season. I even bred my own Pokemon to use for competitive play! It takes many hours to complete a full team of 6 ready to go Pokemon. I did it all, and I was very happy wit...

Adventure Is Out There (in Chicago)!

Image
Welcome back! I have a life update for all you curious readers! In the most recent months before I graduated high school, I had to audition for colleges, for next year. If you were wondering what major I'm going for, I'm going for theatre!!! And, if you're wondering what the school I decided to go to, I chose to go blue, and go to DePaul University in Chicago! I'll be attending The Theatre School at DePaul University; a conservatory inside of a university. I'm ecstatic about attending in september, and I hope to keep writing blog posts while I'm there. To keep my sanity and to hopefully spread the word of what is to be a fantastic college experience. I chose to do a BA instead of a BFA during my initial application process. In the end I've decided to do a BFA at DePaul. Anyways, for the longest time,  I thought I was going to be doing a BA, so I applied to Boston College, The Juilliard School, New York University,  Sarah Lawrence College, University of ...

I eat Ham, and Jam, and SPAMALOT!

Image
Hello all you wonderful people!!! Welcome back to my blog. Today I am speaking on the behalf of a show I am currently in named “Spamalot”.  if you are not familiar with the show, here is a little background on it. " Monty Python's Spamalot   is a  musical comedy  adapted from the 1975 film  Monty Python and the Holy Grail . Like the film, it is a highly irreverent parody of the  Arthurian Legend , but it differs from the film in many ways."( Wikipedia ) I plan to have photos up from the production process when the show goes up. I will be playing the role of King Arthur, A legendary king who brings a bunch of nights together to form the Knights of the Round Table. King Arthur then proceedes to search for the Holy Grail and then finds that his Grail, metaphorically, is to put on a Broadway show.  The show is jam-packed with references from other musicals, A lot of vulgar language, and a lot of dick jokes. Seriously, a lot of dick jokes. Aside...

My fellow readers: I stumbled onto my blog once again. What I mean by that is, I forgot that I used to blog, and now here I am, blogging again as I did about 4 years ago. If you are curious how I turned out at the end of highschool, here I am. This is my final headshot from my last show at Concord Carlisle High School. I was the Phantom of the Opera, in The Phantom of the Opera.  What a journey it was! To start out freshman year, as a younger, eager, cocky, and bright eyed boy, to a now more experienced graduated senior who still does not know everything about the world and acting, but has a good start. I'm going to speak from the heart here. This is going to be my re-introductory post. It has been a while since I've been on here and I need to find my blogging voice again. I hope to start with more recent things that are happening right now and then I hope to reflect on things that have happened in the past 3 years, that you have missed. Just give me one day more, and ...
